HEC Unveils List of 145 Unrecognized Universities in Pakistan: 95 in Punjab, 34 in Sindh, 11 in KP, 3 in AJK, and 2 in Islamabad

Date: July 25, 2023

In a significant step towards preserving the integrity and quality of higher education in Pakistan, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken a crucial measure by releasing a comprehensive list of illegal and fraudulent educational institutions operating in the country.

The recently disclosed data by the HEC highlights a staggering number of 95 educational institutions in Punjab that have been flagged as unauthorized and fake universities and colleges, raising concerns about the authenticity of their degrees.

Moving on to Sindh, the HEC has identified 34 universities and colleges in the province that lack proper recognition and validation, posing a risk to the academic pursuits of students.

Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 educational institutions have faced scrutiny by the HEC and have been deemed as illegal, shedding light on the need for more stringent oversight.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), three educational institutions have been exposed as fraudulent, warranting immediate attention from the authorities.

Even the federal capital, Islamabad, has not been spared from this educational malpractice, with two colleges in the city, namely Islamabad Law College and Hurnkadah College of Visual Arts and Performing Arts, being identified as illegal and unauthorized by the HEC.

The release of this region-wise list of all illegal institutions in the country is expected to serve as a crucial resource for students, parents, and educational institutions to ensure they make informed decisions and avoid falling prey to unscrupulous entities.

As the HEC continues its efforts to uphold the standards of higher education, the public is encouraged to verify the recognition status of educational institutions before enrolling in any academic programs.
