Pakistanis Express Disappointment as Burj Khalifa Fails to Illuminate with Pakistan Flag on 14 August 2023

Date: August 14, 2023

Pakistanis worldwide have voiced their dismay and discontent as the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai did not illuminate with the colors of the Pakistan flag to mark the country’s 76th Independence Day.

Traditionally, as part of the celebrations for Pakistan’s Independence Day, the Burj Khalifa is bathed in the vibrant green and white hues of the Pakistani flag.

However, the absence of Pakistan’s flag colors on the Burj Khalifa this year has left many Pakistanis feeling disheartened. Social media platforms quickly lit up with disappointment and frustration, with users sharing images from previous years when the Burj Khalifa proudly displayed the green and white.

Numerous expatriates gathered around the renowned structure in hopeful anticipation of witnessing it bathed in green and white, only to experience letdown. They even chanted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans, despite the landmark’s lack of celebration for Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Twitter, Instagram, and various other social media channels overflowed with posts conveying anger and sorrow over this omission. Some users emphasized the significance of this gesture, not solely as a symbolic manifestation of unity but also as a source of pride for the Pakistani diaspora.

Amidst the disappointment, many Pakistanis also expressed optimism that this incident would underscore the importance of such acts of solidarity and togetherness. The episode prompted discussions about the value of acknowledging and commemorating national milestones, transcending geographical boundaries.
