Reliable sources informed ProPakistani that the Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwarul Haq Kakar, has made the decision to designate Dr. Umar Saif as the Caretaker IT and Telecom Minister.

Dr. Umar Saif boasts an extensive and illustrious background encompassing academia, management, consulting, and entrepreneurship within the IT sector. He is the visionary behind aiSight.ai and serves as its CEO, holds the esteemed position of Chief Digital Officer at the Jang Group, and is the CEO of Khudi Ventures, Pakistan’s largest Venture Builder. His advisory role extends to the United Nations Development Program in Pakistan.

Having earned academic credentials from esteemed institutions such as LUMS, Cambridge, and MIT, Dr. Umar Saif achieved his BSc (Hons) from LUMS in 1998, completed his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge in 2001, and undertook a Post-Doctorate program at MIT in 2002. In 2013, he enriched his expertise with Executive Education from the Harvard Kennedy School, focusing on Global Leadership and Public Policy.

Dr. Umar Saif’s contributions to Pakistan’s IT sector have been substantial, as evidenced by his roles as Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board and Vice Chancellor of the Information Technology University. His dedicated service led to him being honored with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (SI) in 2014, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards.

A trailblazer, Dr. Saif made history in 2011 by becoming the first Pakistani recognized as one of the world’s top 35 young innovators (TR35) by MIT Technology Review. His accolades also include the prestigious Google Faculty Research Award in 2011.

In 2010, the World Economic Forum acknowledged Dr. Saif as a Young Global Leader (YGL). His remarkable achievements have earned him accolades such as the MIT Technovator Award in 2008, Mark Weiser Award in 2008, IDG CIO Technology Pioneer Award in 2008, and Microsoft Research’s Digital Inclusion Award in 2006. His research papers have garnered esteemed recognition, including best paper awards in ACM CHI 2013 and IEEE Percom 2008.

During his doctoral pursuits, Dr. Saif distinguished himself as a Trinity College Overseas Scholar and Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Cambridge. His distinction extended to receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge at the youthful age of 23, marking him as the first Pakistani to achieve this feat in the field of Computer Science.
