Sindh: Parents Refusing Children’s Vaccination to Face One-Month Imprisonment and Fine of 50,000 Rupees

Date: August 26, 2023

Parents who refuse to get their children vaccinated will now face a penalty of one month’s imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 rupees.

The Governor of Sindh has signed the Sindh Immunization and Epidemics Control Act 2023, which has now come into effect.

Under the act, promoting anti-vaccination and immunization messages will also result in a six-month imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 rupees, or both penalties.

According to the new law, the Sindh Electronic Immunization Registry will also be established, where vaccination records will only be issued upon inclusion in the registry, and no hospital or institution can issue a birth certificate without vaccination information.
