Pakistan Women Achieve Historic T20 Series Triumph Over South Africa

Date: September 04, 2023

The Pakistan women’s cricket team secured a remarkable victory in the three-match T20I series against South Africa, triumphing with a seven-wicket win at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.

At the heart of this historic win was a dazzling performance by Sidra Ameen, who scored a brilliant 61 off 44 balls. Her exceptional innings not only stabilized the chase but also earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match accolade.

Although the Women in Green faced an early setback in the second game of the series, losing a wicket with just 23 runs on the board in the fourth over, the tide quickly turned.

The partnership between Sidra Ameen and Bismah Maroof at the crease resulted in a pivotal 68-run stand, shifting the momentum of the game in favor of the home team.

Following the departure of this partnership, the responsibility fell to Muneeba Ali and Aliya Riaz. Riaz, known for her match-winning boundaries, displayed her prowess once more.

Her dynamic innings of 31 runs from just 18 deliveries, featuring a spectacular six in the final over, ensured that Pakistan clinched victory with five balls to spare.

Batting first, South Africa looked formidable with openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, who established a solid foundation for the visitors with a 74-run partnership.

Tazmin Brits once again emerged as the standout performer for the visitors, scoring an impressive 46 runs. Meanwhile, Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu each claimed a wicket for the home side.

In the preceding match, Pakistan had defeated South Africa while chasing down the same target, marking their highest successful run-chase in T20 cricket history.
