World Bank Delegation Meets Caretaker IT Minister to Discuss Digital Economy Enhancement Project

Date: September 07, 2023

Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Dr. Umar Saif, recently hosted a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank, headed by Najy Benhassine, the Country Director for Pakistan. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of IT, focused on various matters of mutual interest, with a particular emphasis on the ‘Digital Economy Enhancement Project.’

Dr. Umar Saif expressed his warm welcome to the World Bank delegation and highlighted the significance of the project. He emphasized that this initiative would greatly benefit the general public by providing a unified platform for accessing online services.

Over the past few years, both federal and provincial governments have made substantial progress in digitalization efforts. However, these systems were not interconnected. Dr. Umar Saif explained that the ‘Digital Economy Enhancement Project’ would address this issue by linking all government systems. This integration would enable seamless and efficient delivery of public services through a single platform.

Citizens would find it remarkably convenient to obtain essential documents and services such as domicile certificates, NOCs, birth certificates, and vehicle registrations online. Dr. Umar Saif also noted that the project would contribute to expanding the tax base.

The meeting was attended by Secretary IT Hassan Nasir Jamy, along with senior officials from the Ministry of IT. This collaboration between the government and the World Bank promises to bring about significant improvements in digital governance and public service delivery.
